New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (the North Island and the South Island), and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. The indigenous Māori named New Zealand Aotearoa, commonly translated as The Land of the Long White Cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica).
Student Visa
You can study a single course or training of not more than 3 months' duration in New Zealand as a visitor. If you wish to study a course for more than 3 months, you must apply for a Student Visa. Student visas and permits are not granted to students 13 years of age and under unless they are accompanied by a legal guardian who will live with them in New Zealand.

Passport Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you intend to depart New Zealand.
An Offer of a Place and the Tuition Fee Receipt The educational institution and the course that you are enrolled in must be registered to NZQA and must be a signatory to the Ministry of Education Code of Practice to accept foreign students.

Basic Requirements of Immigration
Resident status in New Zealand entitles you to live, study and work indefinitely in New Zealand. If you wish to migrate to New Zealand, you need to apply for resident status.
Benefits
With permanent residence status, you and wife can work or start a business or simply retire. You can get loans, build assets while your children can get free education and subsidized health care. As a residence permit holder you get all the rights and benefits available to a New Zealand citizen (except the right to vote and own a New Zealand passport). Residence permit holders can apply for citizenship. As per recent rules, you can acquire New Zealand citizenship without losing the Indian one.
Work at New Zealand
International students enrolled in a tertiary programme of study are eligible to work upto 20 hours per week during the academic year. Students can work full time (40 hrs) in New Zealand only during the summer holidays. The average wage for part time jobs is between NZ$ 10 - NZ$ 12 per hour. International students who have graduates from a course in New Zealand that would gain the Skilled Migrant Category may apply for a six month open work permit. Eligible student's partner may apply for a work permit, valid for the duration of the study course.
